The game tells the story of a party of adventurers who have been transported to an unknown world and must survive against its hostile inhabitants while learning about their new home and seeking allies. It features twenty-nine musical scores. Most of the programmers were not familiar with the tabletop game, so the coding process proved to be difficult. Azcan Cave c. Jungle d. Azcan Temple e. Schattenalfen City prove you are a true warrior of the eternal sun! It's really up to you what you want to do here as you can get through the game with any setup. If you want to be a joker and go with all halflings then by all means give it a try.
I recommend the female dwarf for comic relief throughout the relentless grinding you're about to go through try not to laugh at that cherub face; although the dwarf realistically is just a fighter with fewer movement points.
If you're a perfectionist, and I'm guessing you are, then totally avoid the Thief, Halfling, and Dwarf. They are just not good characters. Cleric's are super strong because they can wear plate mail and get a lot of hit points.
They will be the person you can send in to soak up damage in a tight spot. The fighter is an all-around strong character and gets a lot of level ups. He can also wear Plate Mail which is a key feature. The elf casts spells and also can wear plate and gets a lot of level ups. His levels are very expensive so if you want to avoid some grinding use another fighter.
I highly recommend the elf though because he doubles your spell power, including carrying an extra two level two spells which will include Entangle which you'll need for the relentless grinding. This can take a long time.
For the magic user you need a high score in intelligence. For the cleric you need a high score in Wisdom. Dexterity affects how well you dodge attacks and how well you shoot in your ranged attacks so those are both very important.
Constitution affects your hit points, so the more CON you have the more HP bonus you get on each level up so don't skimp on that either. The Intelligence and Wisdom effect the spell casters number of spells they get at level up so you want to get those extra spells. Basically just select all your characters and name them and give them color and everything like that. I like to use the cool symbols in my names.
After you get that done then start rolling. Don't zone out and skip a good roll because you will kick yourself if you do. Just watch the two numbers you are focused on which is dex and con.
If you are rolling the magic user or cleric, also watch the other skills. You can't get perfect 18s on all of them from what I've seen so just hope for all scores above 15 and two of them 17 or 18 at least on the spell casters. Ok so we're finally ready to start our perfect game! There are a bunch of hidden items in the castle that will make your job at doing this a LOT easier so let's go get all those first.
The castle has a bunch of hidden caves that are supposed to be towers. You can find one of them in the king's room where you start out. It holds a couple of easy fights as well as the first pair of Guantlets of Ogre Strength that you'll find in the game. Next we'll go get items out of the cemetary. There is a secret passage behind the church which holds a potion of healing and a staff of healing. Next walk over to the magic shop on the far left.
At the top left of his shop there is another hidden passage. You may have to talk to the shop owner and cancel out of his shop screen a few times to get here but it's worth it. There is a Wand of Lightning as well as a Sleep scroll that your magic user can scribe during a quick rest. Above the magic shop is the area I like to call the soup kitchen. At the very top left there is another hidden passage. And finally head over to the very top right of the castle in the area where the citizens' housing is located to find the final hidden tower passage.
Once you've got all these hidden items you can head over to the weapon shop and pick up a sling for everyone and you probably want to get a dagger for your magic user too. This shot shows some extra weapons that should have just been sold at the store, and also not everything is on the correct player in terms of armor.
Mostly look at the blue items, those are all the special ones we just picked up. And the wand at the bottom is the key item you absolutely must have to start grinding right away. Let's get to it! Here is where it all starts. Most people won't play the game this way, but then again this is one of the hardest ways to play and it relies on one of the hardest caves in the game to find, so it makes sense most people will never have played this way. However, I would argue it is the way the developer would play if he were to do it.
This appears to me to be the most efficient way to play the game. To start out, we're going to need to locate that elusive Forest Cave. Here is a map I've created to help you do so:. Except for this one is different than others. The easiest way I've found to find it is to cross the bridge, then head a little south and due west until you hit the wall. Then head over to the right until you reach the eastern side of one of the forest patches. As I mentioned they're all the same so you can tel when you hit the edge of it.
Once you hit this eastern edge head down and look for the rock and bush pattern in the right photo. It seems to be at the top left corner of one patch of forest, and there is also another patch of forest above it so it's also the bottom right of that patch. You can see that patch of forest in the top left corner of my image on the right.
So where that patch ends, and this next patch begins is where you'll find the cave. Sorry I can't explain better than that, it really is the hardest cave in the game to find. This is our target. He's worth Experience Points which isn't much but it's great for our purposes right now. We'll stay at this cave for a little while and grind levels on this Minotaur by entering and exiting the cave over and over and hitting him with the Wand of Lightning.
Your Wand of Lightning has limited charges and the number is randomly generated every time you reset or reload the game. This means if you run out and the item goes away, then you need to reload your game so it comes back with more charges. So every time you kill this guy you need to save the game.
If you lose the wand, reload the game. You do NOT need to reset the entire game, just reload the game and the charges will be back. If you move forward one step inside the cave after you have used your Wand of Lightning it will kill one or all of your party.
Simply come in, fire the wand, if it doesn't kill the Minotaur then beat him to death or if he's beating you to death just back out of the cave and come in again.
Make sure you don't lose your wand! Your magic user and elf are the only characters that can use the wand so we're going to get them strong enough to clear this cave. Once we are able to clear the cave we will move on to our next destination, the Beastmen caves, where we'll get an Entangle Scroll that will help us defeat larger enemies.
